The World According to Renshi

I enjoy a wide assortment of musical genres. Of late, I have been listening to the Grateful Dead quite a bit. When I was younger I always assumed the Grateful Dead’s music would be spacey and acidy… Little did I know that their music is a blending of folk, country, western, bluegrass and rock n roll.

Anyone interested in giving the Grateful Dead a listen should, in my opinion, start with the album, “American Beauty”. I believe it is their best album, and one of the best albums for any band and any genre.

I would start with a studio album before venturing into the recordings of their live shows. They are excellent, but it’s best to get a baseline on their music then move into their unique live performances. They have a tendency to “wander about”. Give them a try and let me know what you think.
