From nearly the inception of what we call Christianity, we have successfully avoided listening to Jesus. One example of that is the topic of this particular post. In John 17:20-23, Jesus prays for believers to be one – just as He and the Father are one. Pause and think about that for a moment. Jesus prays and pleads for unity because He knew that humankind was fully capable of screwing things up (ok – that is my phraseology).
So – how have we done?
Today, in 2026 according to studies from the Center for the Study of Global Christianity, there are over 49,000 different Christian denominations around the world – and they anticipate continued growth well into 2050.
One may ask… how have we disobeyed so badly?
Possibly it is the result of good intentions with unintended consequences; but just as likely, it is the result of hubris, ego and pride. We are allegedly all “one in the Body of Christ”. I believe it is critical to address this situation and do everything possible to become a post-denominational body of Christ. More to come!
